"Ripple Effect" on view at Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery 10/3-11/9

additional reception 11/2 11am-1pm
Deeply concerned with the urgent environmental issues facing our world, artist duo KX2 is excited to present "Ripple Effect" at the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery. This exhibition is a culmination of their ongoing exploration into the fragile relationship between urbanization and the environment, focusing on critical themes such as water infrastructure, climate change, flooding and the diminishing access to potable water. Through this body of work, the artists aim to not only reflect upon the impact of climate change on infrastructure but also to provoke a dialogue about the future of our communities and our planet.
At the heart of "Ripple Effect" is the immersive sculptural installation, "Boil Notice." This monumental work, previously exhibited and now reimagined with updated 2023 data, takes full advantage of the gallery's expansive space with its 27-foot ceilings. The installation is a poignant reflection of the the frequency of boil water notices that plague Broward County. KX2 artistically conveys their research by incorporating 365 salvaged water spout fixtures, symbolizing the daily clash between natural resources and development.
In addition to "Boil Notice," the exhibition introduces new works that further narrate the journey of water through our environment. These pieces vividly depict water’s path from rainfall and flooding, through urban infrastructure, and ultimately to the system failures that trigger boil notices. The new artworks blend high-polished metals with salvaged materials, paired with the duo's signature painted and cut canvas installations. A highlight of this segment is a striking 34-foot long, three-dimensional stainless steel pipe mural, which traces the progressive rise of tide charts over time.
"Ripple Effect" aims to engage both university students and the wider community in a critical conversation about our environment. The opening reception on October 3rd will feature a lecture and discussion session with students from various disciplines, fostering public awareness and sparking dialogue on the environmental issues we face today.
This exhibition was made possible with support from the Broward County Cultural Division.
